Nothing Shakes the Void
07:22
|
|||
You are not alone in the pain that fills the human heart
though you wander on your own for lifetimes in the dark.
And they burned all the prophets like sage
who call out for another way.
We are written into this skin
And it's something I could die in.
Old age.
And I'll give it away.
The stories we were told round the campfires of old
built a world of walls around you and it's all that you know
so you do what you're told, become a sight to behold,
build a house of cards or a tower of gold.
The ones who came to save us and the ones who came to slay us
touch fingers in the tragedies that bring us together.
Every time the sun is setting you can see just where we're heading.
I don't know how to tell you, my friend
you live the same day over again.
We are the ones for which we wait,
beliefs demolished by an ancient faith.
These riders on the storm,
who come to teach and come to warn,
that in this endless twist of fate
the hour's ever getting late.
The stories we were told round the campfires of old
built a world of walls around us and it's all that we know.
But you remember the glow from many lifetimes ago,
you start digging in the spot where you buried your soul.
And the stories that became us and the lies that have enslaved us
burn like fires on the pyres that turn darkness to light.
You see the sun is setting and you think it's Armageddon.
Nothing shakes the void
the darkness rings out like a bell
turning us to ashes falling down like snow.
Nothing shakes the past
it's buried deep in our foundations
calling from the ashes what we call ourselves.
Awakened by the blast that secretly we've waited for,
who do we become when we are not ourselves?
An explosion shakes the glass,
bodies pass through your reflection.
You are not alone
and god is only scary when he...

Another night on the Western front
silk smokescreens and cannonfire
riots pounding in car stereos
Roman soldiers and warrior police.
You live underground in a kingdom of fear
they gave you a gun, a radio, and a mirror.
In this war of the worlds you forget who you are
your soul has been sleeping like a distant star.
I never said we would survive
that's what it means to be alive.
My scream is a prayer
my heart is a pyre
my voice is a flame in a world on fire.
Midnight in the garden of Gethsemane,
broken locks on the pearly gates.
The catacombs are restless as subways,
shadow workers pulling graveyard shifts.
I've seen the future so I live in the past.
I know there's nowhere to run so I don't even ask.
You can wait here for tomorrow like a worm on a hook,
like I said, I've seen the future so I don't even look.
I've been awake in this endless night,
searching for strangers who search for the light.
I fight for the children still deep in the dream
and tear down the leaders who are not what they seem.

This War
07:39
|
|||
The earth goes dark like it did before.
You close your eyes, try to find the door
to the place where you have shelter from the storm.
They're gonna liquidate all the prisoners.
Ask the privatized executioner exactly what a human life is worth.
This war is older than us all.
You heed the call,
you build the wall.
You learn to walk,
you stand, you fall, you die.
This storm's been brewing for some time,
you hear it in the poet's rhyme,
you see it in the little children's eyes.
The wilderness inside our hearts
floods the street as the music stops.
Buildings are burning down
and the power is out.
See the light inside my eyes,
the soul's a slave that never dies.
If life's a dream, there's no way to close your eyes.
So you wait and you wait and you wait
for blacked out cars with government plates
but they trust you'll find your own way to the grave.
This war is older than us all
you heed the call
you build the wall
you learn to walk,
you stand, you fall, you die.
This storms been brewing for some time
blinding us with the sands of time
if life's a dream, there's no way to close your eyes.

After Death
08:32
|
|||
As we watch the earth re-materialize at dawn,
tree of life in the mist,
birds are calling and carrying pieces of light to the earth
so that something exists in this void.
And all the rocks and the trees and the moss and the ferns
distinguish themselves from the dark of the earth
and you hear a voice calling, you feel yourself falling
and you wake up in your body like you did at your birth.
In a thousand years will the earth still be here?
Because the world is at war and we need to stay clear
in the amnesia of time and the blindness of life,
the sacred bundle carried must always survive.
And I've walked through the veil while they sang funeral dirges
but a new life from the ashes emerges
from the womb in the dark of the heart of the earth
a light pours through a crack in the door
and we shine.

Pyramid Schemes
11:15
|
|||
Fire and rain trickle down from the top.
An ancient code written into the crop.
We wake up screaming
born in hospital dreams,
our fathers entombed in pyramid schemes.
We've become ghosts in life's charade
we walk through walls, we howl our names.
We are the ones that nobody sees
I will look for you if you will look for me.
Cities underwater, we still carry their songs.
If there's one thing we know it's how to keep on.
So put the past behind you and your shoulder to the wheel,
caravan campfires in a world of steel.
They say one day the earth will stop giving.
The wheel of unbecoming leaves no one forgiven.
You're an ancient soul born of peasant blood,
I will hold you close as we get lost in the flood.
Those who have eyes let them look to the sky,
the universe fills with ancient white light.
The mask that you wear is a face you don't know.
Give Caesar what's his, the dead can bury their own.
Mother, they murdered the mountains
they sowed their salt in our soil
is there a god to forgive those
who'd trade off the earth for it's oil?
Mother, they murdered six million
they put the guns in our hands
is there a god to forgive those
who kill what they can't understand?
